Conference of the Immersive Learning Research Network (iLRN 2020)

The 6th International Conference of the Immersive Learning Research Network (iLRN 2020)  June 21–25, took place online this year due to COVID-19 restrictions and team members participated virtually via VirBELA virtual platform. The Immersive Learning Research Network (iLRN) is an international organization of developers, educators, and research professionals collaborating to develop the scientific, technical, and applied potential of immersive learning. Effective immersive learning experiences are created within multiple media using myriad techniques and employing a wealth of knowledge that spans many disciplines – including, but not limited to: computer science, user experience and media design, the learning sciences, architecture, game development, artificial intelligence, biology, medicine, and the thousands of disciplinary and occupational content areas wherein immersive learning and training may be relevant. ARETE project was presented in the poster session and falls within the aims of iLRN where interdisciplinary contexts are defining properties, contexts, conditions, procedures, states, measures, and outcomes that converge to reliably create an effective immersive learning experience for learners. The poster presented the aim of our European project, to develop an interactive toolkit for Augmented Reality (AR) content. The ARETE system follows human-centered interaction design practices and has a strong focus in interactive, multi-user and multi-lingual technologies. The work in progress ultimately will present a system that will be evaluated across three pilot studies. The team members enjoyed the innovative and interactive virtual gathering for a burgeoning global network of researchers and practitioners collaborating to develop the scientific, technical, and applied potential of immersive learning. The theme of this year’s conference is Vision 20/20: Hindsight, Insight, and Foresight in XR and Immersive Learning. It has been Technically co-sponsored by the IEEE Education Society, with proceedings to be submitted for inclusion in IEEE Xplore®
